Buying children's clothing online has one structural problem: you cannot feel the fabric or check the fit. This page is about how to reduce that risk, whether you buy from us or anywhere else.

What to check before you order

Does the listing state the fabric properly?

Look for the exact composition, the weight in GSM and whether the cotton is combed ring-spun. Watch for a blanket "100% cotton" on a range that includes heather colors, since heathers are almost always a blend. A listing that says only "soft cotton blend" is telling you it would rather not be specific.

Is there a real size chart?

A chart with actual measurements in inches or centimeters, not just an age range. Children's sizing varies enormously between brands, so a seller who only lists ages is asking you to guess. Ours is on the size guide, with the width and length of every size.

What is the print method?

Screen printing and direct-to-garment both put the ink into the fabric, so neither cracks. A heat transfer sits on top and eventually peels. If a listing does not say which it is, it is usually a transfer.

Where is it shipping from, and how long?

This is where most disappointment comes from. Overseas dropshipping can mean three weeks in transit, which matters a great deal if the tee is for a birthday.

Is the returns policy clear?

Children's sizing goes wrong often enough that returns are not a hypothetical. Check the window, who pays for return shipping, and whether exchanges are offered.

Large general retailers

Wide size availability and easy returns. The trade-off is that the artwork is designed by committee for mass appeal, and quality varies sharply between their own sub-brands.

Marketplaces

Enormous selection, highly variable quality, and sizing that frequently does not match the chart. Reading recent reviews specifically about fit is essential.

Print-on-demand shops

Great for unusual and personalized designs, and the only practical way to offer a wide range of original artwork. Nothing is made until you order, so lead times run a little longer. We work this way ourselves.

Independent brands

Original artwork and usually better construction, since a small brand cannot survive on returns. Smaller size runs mean popular sizes sell out.

How to compare on price properly

Compare landed cost, not sticker price. A cheaper tee with paid shipping, a long lead time and paid returns is frequently more expensive than a pricier one with free delivery. Then divide by expected life: a shirt that survives twelve months of wear at twice the price of one that survives four is the cheaper garment.
