Big boys sizing is the awkward middle ground between children's clothing and the smallest adult sizes. Boys at eight, nine and ten are too tall for most kids ranges and too narrow for men's small, and the artwork on either side is usually wrong: too cartoonish below, too adult above.
Youth M and L add real length through the torso without adding shoulder width, because boys at this age grow up before they grow out. The sleeve lengthens to sit at mid-bicep rather than high on the arm, which is the detail that stops a tee reading as a little kid's shirt.
The rule at this age is simple. If it looks like it was designed for a five year old, it will not be worn, regardless of how well it fits. Western, sports, vintage and bold type all work. Cute characters do not.
Roughly seven to eleven, in youth sizes M and L.
Youth XL is the next step in our range and is usually a better fit than an adult small, which is much wider at the shoulder.
One size up gives the looser fit most boys this age prefer, and buys a few extra months of wear.
Western, sports, vintage and bold type. Character and cartoon prints are generally rejected from about eight.
Yes, the same combed ring-spun cotton throughout the range.
